Return of a deposit

Note also that PP doesn't condone the use of deposits for exactly the reasons apparent in the rest of this thread. If you pay a deposit you accept the risk, and if you get stung, on your head be it.  Harsh perhaps, but those are the rules.

Some people have been let down so often that they now feel the need for deposits. Other people aren't reliable and still ask for deposits. It's up to the person handing over the money to make sure the person getting it is sufficiently trustworthy. PP can help with all parties due diligence, but it can't guarantee proper behaviour. I pay deposits, but I only shoot with people I consider to be at least as reliable as I am.

I’ve just stumbled over this thread….and I’m really confused.  In the many many years I’ve been shooting models, many well-known most unknown, I have never been asked for a deposit.  I’ve have - probably wrongly these days - always paid cash and always on the day after the fact.  I’ve never had a complaint about this process or been asked for a different approach.

Likewise.

Except that I recently had a deposit sprung on me (the first time I'd ever been asked to pay one) after the shoot arrangements had already been agreed. I cancelled instantly. The model responded that the deposit wasn't mandatory.

I will never pay a deposit to an internet model so choose to avoid those that say they require one - hence nobody gets 'hurt'. But I deplore people who try to hoodwink others into something they didn't or wouldn't agree to, and would never work with them under any circumstances.

I have had this problem, model asked for and received a 50% deposit but then cancelled due to health.

She was then financially embarrassed and could not pay the deposit back. I did eventually get it in lots of small instalments

Left a bitter taste in deposits
