Travelling abroad with a drone

In hindsight, it's obvious I suppose, but do check the local laws of any country where you plan to take your drone.

I have the UK requisites for flying in the UK, and also a French operator ID which covers me for the whole of the EU, but I got caught unawares when I travelled to Tanzania, where the immigration check included an X-ray of my luggage, which revealed that I had a drone with me.  It mattered not whether I was going to use it, that country required me to have filed paperwork a number of weeks in advance, which I'd not done because the trip was very much on the spur of the moment.

Hey ho, they took the drone, gave me a receipt, and I picked it up again when I got back to the airport for my flight home.

Thanks for passing this on.There must have been a momment that you wondered if you would get your drone back.

While it appears the the sort of rules and proceedures we have in the UK are reflected in principle in the major European and American countries (I understand that the UK, EU and US have a great deal of commonality of principle and therefore give us a guide of what sort of regulations we might expect, if not the detail) however we can not assume that applies to all countries.
