Bud off a stub

Stu H I'm speculating here, but I think I'm expecting to see more replies getting buried for being off-topic and with an Admin comment along the lines of "please take any off-topic discussions to a new post".

Will you be publicising this preference - say in a new Admin thread, and on the blog - or leaving it to fail because no-one knows that this is the new thing to do?
As I said, I'd like to see people using it right now by copying and quoting and creating a new post using existing tools.
If someone wishes to make a new post describing their technique. Maybe some wrinkles in the technique will be ironed out before any code is changed.

How was it off topic?
It was fully on topic given what the site wants us to do.
By the looks of it, it is unrelated to this post, which, if I read the OP correctly, is about the ability to easily branch posts instead of a post drifting off topic to discuss existing mobile issues with the text editor...which, if anything, I'll convert to a BB code editor and abandon the existing one in favour of people learning BB code.
I don't want you to do anything. I replied to a suggestion and hopefully people will do it, and then we'll implement an easy way to do it.
Actually, you know what. It's easy to say and I should have done so already.
Yes, okay, we'll do it. It's on the list.
Happy now?

When it comes out of dev and in to live ... yes.
Until then ... like you said - it's easy to say 'yes'.

Perhaps off-topic replies will be tunnelled rather than simply buried.
;)

That would be harder for Admins to do, given that it would also need to be put into an appropriate group (could default to Off Topic?) and - harder - given an appropriate title.

Well, let's see the technique being used manually for a while to see how often it is used and how popular it might be.
I've only been able to find one example, but I do know that I've seen multiple people do it manually in the past, where they start a new topic and say something like "arising from the post on (topic) I've also thought about..."
The one example? Midge posted https://purpleport.com/group/general-chat/193731/Models--art-nude-models--The-supply-of-art-nude-models--retention--and-recruitment-of-new-ones/ but I can't now find which prior discussion he's referring to.

That said, I could definitely see a temptation for them to want to relocate a reply into a new post in, say, General Politics, rather than consign the entire post there!

Nomenclature, rather than a material difference.
"Your post has been tunnelled, it may be fascinating but is a branch from the topic of the thread. You may wish to consider using the button provided to branch similar comments yourself."
Surely the default is in the same group it started from?
It is a diversion from one topic, rather than necessarily from Chat:Gen
