Does PP need a photo shuffle

I'm sure that everyone who has uploaded photos here has noticed that the "life" of an upload here is about 6 hours before the views dry up when the upload gets pushed back on the recently added images. Would be great to hear opinions should there rather be a photo shuffle that would put photos in random order constantly on the recently added images. Technology is there, but is there will to use it on PP.

I could be wrong but, I believe you can have a 'random images' gadget on your homepage.

Edit: Just checked the customise homepage option and you can. Would that do what you are wanting?

I think his idea is to show this to everyone by default.
He's not after exploring others but after receiving views and likes after this 6 hour interval.

If as you suggest the recently added images were randomised then we may find ourselves looking at images that are NOT recent. How do you define recent - one hour, six or twenty four ?

I look at, enjoy, sometimes learn from, a lot of pictures.

The raw feed in order of recent images isn't a great source.

Placing images you like making where people who like being in or making that sort of images is probably a better entrée to the relevant networks.

There are groups. If you don't find one to suit, start it.

Good luck.

FWIW I think a "random since..." version of the recent photographs widget would actually be pretty interesting! Default to 24 hours, let people choose 6/12/48/3 days/5 days/7 days.

I now only have Recent, Random and Images I Have Loved displaying. No popular, no FPI. The (historic) Random widget is quite interesting.

IMO sites like Purpleport should be focussing on eliminating doomscroll elements and slowing down their content a little. And I do think a recent-random widget would give more varied content more of a chance to be seen, for people who are less frequent visitors.

I agree,  but probably as well as, rather than instead of?

Yeah, I mean as-well-as.

One might add levels - liked by none, one, two, ten, although I suppose that overlaps the Popular images widget.

Have you tried the Random images gadget, accessible on the home page using the Customise (spanner) button, as has been suggested?

A combination of these two ideas might be what the OP is after. If the Random Image gadget could be set to only render images to a user define period then job done. But the possible trade-off could be that those gems from yesteryear may never be seen again.

Are viewers of recent images

a) opening images they see on the gadget on the home page?

b) trawling through the recent images gadget methodically?

or

c) viewing other gadgets eg members they follow/images from members nearby?

It would be interesting if people could indicate what their route to viewing a recent image normally is. For me its mostly b).

For the suggestion to have merit I think most people need to be saying a).

One merit of the present system is new images are only shown once - like or ignore, move on.

I'm sick to death of faecebook showing me unwanted feed which I've already had twenty times over before, to the point where it's so irritating I scarcely use the thing any more.

Personally I wouldn't be in favour of any gadget which keeps showing me the same flipping images again and again.
