Slight tangent, but what about it being a profile option for models and then something that can be filtered by checkbox in the search. Can work at home doesn't necessarily mean they have a remote setup. Those then looking directly for models know they might be able to pull their project off remotely with a model they normally wouldn't get to work with because they are hundreds of miles away rather than relying on scouring old castings, many of which get deleted.
Once implemented a mailshot to models, banner notification for a while or a popup on next login could encourage those to tick the boxes who offer it in order to get the number base up.
but who knows whether they actually have a decent set up looking at the profiles
Why would a photographer spend £thousands on top end camera's and lenses then to do a remote shoot with inferior equipment.
My 2p worth.
You are assuming a photographer has spent thousands on top end camera's and lenses. No disrespect intended but i see a lot of very vocal self proclaimed cheap-asses here on PP that almost make it a sport to announce for how little they've purchased something :-) But ofc they still get the results they want and that's all that matters and is the bottom line.
But let me asnwer your question; After i've met an American model on tour years ago, it was apparant she wouldn't be returning anytime soon. But started offering remote shoots during the pandemic.
Since then we've colaborated multiple times a year , always pushing the bounderies of remote shooting. So yeah what if her setup isn't as good as mine (Her: Fuji XT3, me Full-frame/medium-frame)
It's not like i can just hop over to America to shoot her or vice versa. Without remote shooting, i wouldn't have done so many wonderful collaborations with her, with results i'm proud of. It's fun thinking outside of the box for remote shoots instead of aproaching it as : "model infront of white wall with camera on a tripod hooked up to a laptop" - which seems to be the idea most people that tend to be negative towards remote photography have. Even though i haven't worked with her , Chiara Elisabetta is from what i see somebody that also likes to push remote photography.
As far as the "Who knows if they actually have a decent setup" models doing remote shoots will list what gear they have and there should be tons of example photo's , so that should be a known bit of information going in when booking a remote shoot.
