Or you know you could set your avatar to a picture of yourself…
not very practical doing that as often that is the first image people would see and maybe mistake that as your work, unless it was made mandatory and we all did it?

Have you ever stopped to wonder why so many models and photographers operate under pseudonyms?
I know many models who do and for various reasons, number one being safety. I take it you are also aware that many access this site who are not creatives but predators, this could be a step in getting them off the site, ever think of it that way?

It's not a dating site....if a model or studio needs a photo for whatever reason they can ask for it...but if you want to lead by example feel free to crack on surely you'd want to do that in the interest of safety and blah blah...
Interesting that your mind went that direction about a dating site!!

yeah? well that's just like, your opinion, man...
Indeed it is, and as this is a site that welcomes discussion, I put it out there, thank you for your very helpful contribution!

I once made the mistake of using a photo of a male model as my avatar - but the subsequent approaches from female models were not anticipated. That experience taught me that some of the models here need no encouragement whatsoever, so no selfie from me.

In the 13 years I've been on this site, I've *never* been asked for a photo of myself.
I pick models up from public spaces like railway stations*... they get my phone number, car details and registration.
They don't need to know what I look like in advance.
* I once asked a model what she'd be wearing so I could identify her when she got off the train. Her response: "I'm the one with no knickers on".

As I remarked in the article linked to above, the rules of the site require the picture is taken by you.
So it would be your work.
I remarked on that in the article, in a slightly acid fashion.
The OP suggested it should be made mandatory, which is also remarked upon in the article.
The last maintenance on that article was almost exactly a year ago, but I suppose another matter may yet appear in this, the 907th discussion.
(There's an explicit reference to railway stations as well.)

Good point. I recall writing about it some years ago.

For those of us who have had jobs in which discretion is required, having a portrait isn’t a great idea.
As has been previously stated, a photo could be sent privately. I also note that the OP does not a portrait on display.
This suggestion hasn’t really been thought through.

Excellent points. Someone should discuss them in an article.

I've set mine to my avatar and quite a few models have said they prefer to see who they're going to be working with.
I know it's not an option for some due to the need to remain anonymous but having a self portrait on your page and setting it to members only maybe an option.

Allan Burness Photography you could make an album titled photos of yourself or selfies , the website doesn't have to do it for you. Since you are advocating for this I'm sure you'll be making one soon.

If it's a self shot - then it is your own work.
With regard to your query of whether we ( photographers ) should or should not have a picture of ourselves on our folio... well - that is purely down to the individual.
Some like me have had pics of ourselves on their folios - pretty much from day 1 of joining PP, others don't have that confidence or feel it unnecessary... it's their folio - their choice. I do agree that sending a picture to the model once a shoot is arranged is a good idea, I've always - just pointed them to my self creations.
