Upload images

Can the timer be changed on uploading images?

At present if I upload an image I have to wait 15 minutes between for them to appear on recent images but if I then click add more images the next one won't appear on recent images.

Can it be changed so it's 15 minutes from upload time so that as long as it's not uploaded within 15 minutes it appears

Sorry I've probably not explained it well but hopefully someone knows what I mean!

Hello MarkGerrardPhotography :)

Images added to Recent Images are done so based on the upload time/date of the image (not when the image was published). So, if you add an image to recent images, you cannot add any other image here that was either uploaded at the same time OR within 15 minutes of that image.

For example, If you bulk upload 10 images and add one of those images to recent images, you will not be able to add any of the other images here that were uploaded in the same bulk. You also won't be able to add any images to that image collection that were uploaded within 15 minutes of the bulk.

There's more information about this in our Image Upload Guidelines (under the heading Adding your images to Recent Images).

We used to get people adding so many images and filling up Recent Images with very similar and /or unedited photos. There are members who would fill up Recent Images all the time with their continuous uploading. It means that members with normal uploading behaviour (huge majority of us) would not get images seen in Recent Images for more than a few seconds if things were relaxed.

I think the current 15 minute rule works pretty well, though I would consider changing it from time uploaded to time published.

Currently, if you add lots of detail such as notes, tags etc, after uploading or spend time optimising the thumbnail, then by the time you publish it you can already several images away from the top of the recent images list as someone who’s just uploaded and published immediately jumps ahead.

Exactly what I was trying to say but couldn't get the words out!

Hi Laura

I get that but why can't it be when published?  Even with the current situation you get multiple images appearing in recent images from the same person at certain times of day

MarkGerrardPhotography The technical reason is that the image is assigned an image number at upload time. That number is used in a number of places. It probably *could* be changed to allocate a number when it's published, but I'd not imagine that the cost vs benefit of that would justify the risk and the amount of testing through multiple places.

When are these "certain times of day" when you've seen multiple images from the same person together in recent images?

Not sure I don't check the time stamps I know I just see them together regularly

The images should be 15 minutes apart.
