Drag and Drop? Copy and Paste?

Be specific. What are you trying to do? The answers we give can then be tailored to your needs rather than making assumptions which perhaps aren't relevant to you.
Also important: what type of device are you using?

Perhaps I have not been very specific.
I know that it is possible to include images in messages and other areas of the site, but what I am actually asking is; why can't it be made easier to do, such as with drag and drop, or copy and paste?
Are you talking about drag & drop from your computer, or drag & drop from another part of the site?
The site allows direct uploads from your computer to three specific places:
- Your portfolio
- Competitions
- Support tickets
To allow uploads directly into a message to someone else would result in questions of ownership, expiry, storage and so on, so the site's design does not allow it. Russ does not have the resources of Facebook or Google to be able to store everything that people send each other forever, and even if he did he'd then have to allow people to remove them when they wanted to, including removing a message from someone else's Inbox. The question is very complex, and not just technically.
It quite probably is quite complex.
But it rather seems to me that these things are as complex as you wish to make them.
There are certainly issues, just about all of which can be negated with a simple line or two in the site rules.
I very much suspect that if you asked the same question of a managerial person, and then an IT employee, you would get very different answers.
I somewhat suspect that the bottom line in this issue is that the site doesn't really want to be bothered, for whatever reason.
But thanks for the responses.
On this site, the managers are all IT professionals, and it’s clear to everyone that this isn’t a simple 'can’t be bothered' issue. You're talking about a fundamental change to the site's infrastructure, along with the costs of server space and bandwidth, which would undoubtedly raise membership fees—if it’s even feasible. And if it’s as easy as you say, why doesn’t any other photography portfolio site operate like that? And why haven’t you built one yourself, if it’s just a small thing?

ANDY00 I can't say about other modelling sites, but I do know that maxmodels.pl allows users to add images directly into private messages. What issues they've bought into as a result I don't know, of course.

Well, there you have it. If it's so simple, why don't you do it?
I wondered how long it would take for this thread to start heading South.
I must confess, I hadn't realised that all of the site managers were IT professionals. So if they can't do it, then it must be difficult. I just wonder why?
So I guess this notion of computers/IT being capable of doing just about anything is just that. A notion.
Oh well, I'll just go and see how a paintbrush interfaces with a bedroom door. That's more my level.

I've never heard of Max Models, so I can’t really speak on that. However, forum-based sites like MM, PP, Purestorm, MF, etc., all work with limited server space. Implementing something like that would require a huge upgrade in server space, bandwidth, and handling of user requests—likely much more than what PP currently uses.

What I said wasn’t meant vindictively but as a genuine suggestion. Why must everyone assume that disagreement is a negative thing? If you believe you can create something better, by all means, go ahead. Over the last 15 years or more, there have been many attempts to create photography portfolio sites, and the majority have failed dramatically due to poor site structure. The most successful ones tend to have similar structures, usability, and connectivity, which is why they work. i will say no more was just offering my opinion on why the thing you want isnt as easy as you think, perhaps admin or Russ will enlighten the subject better.

It's very simple really....images need to be hosted elsewhere and linked or in a portfolio on here. The site is designed for desktop use not mobile devices though some aspects function, that's why some links will not be live.
It's an uneconomic proposition to change to a fully integrated mobile site that will work across all devices, and until that happens it will remain as first sentence describes.

PP isn't based on a forum and has no space or bandwidth limitations. I'm really not sure where you get such ideas from.
We don't allow images in messages because there is and always has been a concern that it will lead to abuse.

Russ Freeman well there you go my assumption was wrong lol, however all photography portfolio sites do seem to work the same way other than that one ide never heard of, not sure how that could be abused then russ given that anyone can host and share anyway and if there’s no limit on server space or band width why the limits on image sizes and media types ? Hmmm

You can embed images in messages, I do so all the time. However, if they aren't already On PP they will need to be stored somewhere like Dropbox, which will need you to provide the relevant URL.
As suggested above, probably the easiest thing is to upload them into your PP portfolio and make them invisible.
FunPhotographer said, 1727697678
Modelfolio, Adultfolio and Fetlife all allow images to be uploaded into messages. I am sure there are instances of abuse, though I guess not enough to make them all remove the option.
However, with PP's policy of keeping all communications on the PP message system, not allowing images not hosted on the site to be added to messages in an easy, quick and simple way simply encourages conversations to move over to the likes of WhatsApp.

You can add images not hosted on PP to messages, groups, castings, events...
FunPhotographer said, 1727699759
You can't do it simply, quickly and easily with an image stored on your PC or phone as you can on the other sites I mentioned. Unless I'm missing something?
Russ Freeman (staff) said, 1727699915
You are not missing anything, you will need to have the images hosted somewhere.

That's what I thought. MF, AF and Fet all don't have that cumbersome and annoying extra step. That encourages people to leave take messages elsewhere which I did on my last booking as she wanted to show me the evening light in the various rooms of her house at the time of day we'd be shooting there.

Perhaps because it still has that old-fashioned look of a forum?

The only part of the site which looks like a discussion forum is the groups, so I don't know what you're looking at.
But what's this "old-fashioned" bit about? Can you show something that looks more "modern" and highlight the difference?
