Take a look at Adultfolio’s fresher and more modern layout.
For example, images are not hidden in tiny, inflexible square thumbnails. You can host video. You can shortlist images in competitions to make deciding on your vote easier. Images are resized at 2000 pixels on the longest side, not 1024 pixels wide.
PP’s layout hasn’t changed in a decade and, to me at least, looks old fashioned.
For what it’s worth it still has some fantastic features as well.

If you consider that "fresher" and "more modern" then good for you. I find it cluttered, confusing, non-intuitive, with things difficult to find. The larger "thumbnails" are almost the full size, meaning I get to see each one in greater detail (whoop-de-do) whether I want to or not, and have to scroll further to get through as many as I can see here at one look.
The PP approach to thumbnails encourages a "sampler" view, and is the same as is used on model-kartei.de. It's also the same "gallery" view as Facebook uses. Rather than dismiss it as "old fashioned", I see it as tried and trusted, familiar, and gives me what I want, easily, and without wasting my time.

These are to do with functionality, not layout, so are irrelevant to your point.

That’s fine. You are equally entitled to have and share your own opinions, and feedback, both negative and positive, is valued by Russ I’m sure.
Though it’s a little disappointing to see passive aggressive statements like ‘good for you’, which I thought was a bit unnecessary.
Anyway, now I’ve shared my feedback I shall leave it there.

So basically, it is possible to allow a simpler method of using the site (if I've managed to sift out the facts from all the bickering), but because of "the computer says no", it isn't implemented.
That's pretty much what I thought before I asked the question.
Oh, BTW, the bedroom door looks great. But I used a mini roller in addition to the brush. I like things to be made easy.
