If you want your Go pro included, use it to phone Admin and ask them?
Android tablet…. Makes phone calls, ok.
iPad, can’t make phone calls, not ok.

Would you consider a couple of phone only competitors?
SFW and NSFW?
Still a bit of snobbery about phones.
How about first starting a "Post your best picture taken with a phone" Game and seeing the level of interest?
I started a group seven years ago.
https://purpleport.com/group/phone-photography/
About two posts per year.

Why not for those who enter competitions (not my bag) damned good idea to be fair, nothing stopping any phone image being used now. For the avoidance of doubt would this extend to tablets too, as some use them to capture and edit all in same device. It might be an idea to clarify qualifying devices to save issues later, as no doubt the next question will be is pocket 3, insta 360, Go pro etc. permitted?
I haven't a clue what you are talking about.
Watch the thread it'll all explain itself.

If so this should be separated off from those of us who still like to take pictures the old fashioned way. Not many of us old timers left now.
That is exactly the suggestion and purpose of the post.

old fashion way ? are you using a film camera ?
A camera is a camera. This is something akin to saying this is a Canon only competition or this is a Nikon only competitiion, kind of missing the point. This competition is just focused on phone cameras. Personally, I'd love to see what people can create. I struggle to shoot anything decent on a phone, so most of you are already light years ahead of me—but I'm genuinely interested to see what others can achieve.
The key thing to remember is, you judge a painting competition by the painting, not the brush used. So why worry about what type of camera was used when judging an image? Let’s be honest, if the image is good enough and they didn’t tell you what camera was used, would you even know? And if not, why would it change the value of the image created? if i said all my images were made on hasselblad does it make the images better ? no of course not and i couldnt afford that camera lol
Keyword for the industry is photography, not Entry level SLR or above, were supposed to focus on the images created, anyone can buy a big camera, not everyone can create great images. anyone can say they are professional, not everyone can act like it..... imo,
and in my honest opinion if someone with a phone can create images that match the standard of high end SLR even on web sized image then they are an artist and deserve a pat on the back or two for making that work for them.

DM Photos What do you mean by separated off? No-one is forced to enter a competition?

I’m with you. I’ve never understood the obsession with kit that many (most?) photographers have. When I was learning my mentor (half my age) was the monochrome photographer for Time Out’s European Cities editions. He had two cameras. A an old 1950s Leica 35mm and a Large Format camera. The former for all his ‘field work’ the latter for studio.
His view was “it’s not the kit but how you use it…..the quality of an image is in your head”.

"It absolutely is. You wouldn’t read a book and think, 'Wait a minute, what was this printed on?' before deciding if it was a good book. You don’t look at a painting and ask what brush or paint was used. You judge a picture by the picture, and that’s it. I don’t care what equipment you have or how big your studio is—what matters is the images you create. We all use the tools we have at our disposal, FFS Banksy uses stensils and spray paint and creates some pretty well loved art. Why cant everyone let everyone just do there own thing without trying to set rules to it on what they have to use or how they have to use them.
Go crazy, create awesome art, bluepeter this sh1t

I like the idea of it, and adding themes is trivial, but you know if we add the theme "Taken with a smartphone" people will use their DSLRs to take a photo of their old nokia and that's going to cause burst blood vessels when such images win.

I think this is a great idea, on my last shoot with Irida my shutter failed, I had my Lumix as back up but as she said don't worry we both have our phones. I wish I'd taken some with my Pixel now but I'll definitely be taking some with it on my next shoot in anticipation of this taking off.
