Anonymous concerns

Would it be a good idea to have an anonymous post check box?

Say for example there is a subject a member wants to highlight but does not want added stress because of further enquiries or gaining the wrong attention.

This is something admin or mods could police and admin would also know who's posted it but for anyone else they see only an anon, so it's used only properly and not misused. Cannot find the suggestions page so posting on general.

But, I don't think it'd be a great idea. For legitimate concerns users can contact support. I think it'd be more likely that people would use it to vent unpopular opinions without the risk of blowback.

If it is a concern, would it be better to message admin directly, and there should be no issue knowing who messaged them.

It should all be dealt with in a confidential and professional manner.

It’s annoying enough on Facebook, please not here too!

As previously posted, anyone can report issues to admin for their attention

This post has been moved from the General Chat group to the Bugs, Errors and Suggestions group.

Joining this group is as easy as viewing the group and then clicking 'Join group' near the top right.

I can see people abusing that system a lot, yes admin could monitor but it would be a lot of work.

If anything on the is a real concern it's quick and easy to submit a ticket straight to admin.

Lenswonder - what sort of concerns were you thinking of? There are already people posting things in public that would better be served by a message to Admin.

Gothic Image I think sometimes you want to get a feel if anyone on site may have had a similar experience to you. However, to avoid those who's attention you do not want a anon option would be a good thing. Messaging admin is good , it's a form of support but it's not the support of an online community. Such threads may also spread awareness to others who experience similar.

I'm not surprised people don't want it though due to the attention seeking threads posted and sometimes sin binned by the usual names. For me an anon option would work for those who want to avoid negative characters on site.

There are the ordinary negative characters on site who may simply like to laugh a bit, they're bored may just be having a bad day but than there are also unhinged individuals. They do not fit into simply being a negative character but perhaps may have mental issues and affect others enjoyment on site.

That doesn't make a lot of sense, as anonymous posts would be just as susceptible to negative responses and for the overwhelming majority of instances negative responses are to the posts and comments being made, not at the direct personal expense of the individual making the thread/response.

If somebody were to write a post anonymously saying "I have an idea, let's do (plan/reason/whatever)" - you'll get just as many people who might say "that's a stupid idea" regardless of whether the post was anonymous.

In cases where people have legitimate concerns or observations about trends or behaviours that they raise on the forum, I can't recall a plea for help or reassurance being met with negative responses. Or at least nothing in any way personal.

I just don't see what this would solve, is all.

Given the previous comments the only way that I could see something like this being workable is to do it via admin who then post (at their digression) as Purpleport Pete...

I'm not anti your suggestion at all, I just don't really understand - can you give, if not real life examples, a few 'for instances'.   As in a couple of fictitious 'initial posts'.

Is your proposal that all responses to such posts are anonymous too?  I understand you're advocating that 'admin' can still see who posts anything.  Is that 'admin' that are employed by Purpleport, or the volunteer moderators too?

There are model safety groups for this

Tabitha Boydell don't be confused by my profile pic , the beautiful model is not me the photographer. :)

Raise an issue with Admin if the situation warrants, otherwise public. If something can be abused it will be, or argued over, he said she said , I know someone who etc. all that nonsense.

Lenswonder said, 1727284774

The Portrait Cowboy what it would solve is people being free to sharing experiences without inviting oddballs to their profile.

Lenswonder said, 1727286316

ADWsPhotos admin would & potentially mods would know the original poster I don't think you can do it without mods.

A real example, similar but not exactly. One I once saw on a thread and that was a photographer who took offence at another's post and sought a physical fight. I may have seen that two different times.

People who respond could be anon like the original poster if they prefer or do it under their known online handle their choice.

Just like ordinary people walk the street on their daily routine abiding the laws who come across anti-social or criminal behaviour you may experience the same online and it may go further.

This is a suggestion I think would be useful but DoneTDeath also made a good post which could work a similar way.
