Anonymous concerns

Lenswonder If the worst that happens is somebody views your profile in response to something you've said in the groups, it doesn't seem like the worst thing in the world. If there is any direct negative contact, this can then be reported to admins and dealt with 🤷🏻♂️

Would it be a good idea to have an anonymous post check box?
Say for example there is a subject a member wants to highlight but does not want added stress because of further enquiries or gaining the wrong attention.
This is something admin or mods could police and admin would also know who's posted it but for anyone else they see only an anon, so it's used only properly and not misused. Cannot find the suggestions page so posting on general.
No.
1. Admin deal with incidents.
2. Abuse online is rife without allowing those to hide behind a mask.
3. Oddballs on Profiles ?

@Lenswonder.
If I understand correctly, said person could post a question anonymously, in case they are referring to the photographer's (no name) attitude or a question about modelling that could cause them to lose casting or get bad feedback.
I have questions, but won't ask for the same reason.

The only situation I can think of that this may suit is the 'can I ask a dumb question' which maybe someone is embarrassed to ask or make a statement. But even for this if the response is aggressive, abusive, or humiliating, Admin would either pick up on this during the posting or can be contacted again to resolve. You could say by then that's too late as the house would have bolted, but the alternative would be a witch hunt to find just who submitted the post as well as the abusive of the system.

Lenswonder so someone would post ‘I’m offended by photographer X and want to give them a right good hammering, Wotcha think?’???
Years ago there was a forum group dedicated to rants. As I recall, having let it run a while, the site owner(s?) decided that wasn’t a desirable thing and binned it. So now I guess forum threads are now meant to be positive.
If the site management decided your idea was good, and were sufficiently willing to invest in the mods to enable anonymity in the forum, I suspect we’d rapidly head in the direction of the old rant zone. I personally didn’t have an issue with the rant zone but I can’t see it (even anonymised) having a welcome return.

SweetEnigma I won't post much more, I think those looking to understand do understand. It's simply for me about people being safe online and also safe outside it. If you have come across a questionable character, who goes beyond thread posts you may want to learn who else has experienced similar and remember it's very easy for people to set up 2nd or 3rd profiles on here. There are lots of odd behaviours on site, a tiny one is people who block and unblock.
That's not exactly what I was dealing with but just a tiny example of odd behaviour.
Also no one is hiding behind a mask in my idea because mods and admin would know. In response to Seetheyes.
The idea is not that anon can be used for every subject but only ones regarding safety, dangers or questionable situations.
It's not anon for everything.

ADWsPhotos no , naming and shaming wouldn't be allowed. Similar to those stories you'd read in papers were people are dealing with problems you can only write about the situation without names. The naming and shaming rule the site uses still apply.

Lenswonder sorry, I wasn’t clear. No names, my X wasn’t a placeholder for the real name on a post. It’d literally be ‘X’
That aside, I still can’t see the powers that be feeling it’s a good idea. I may be wrong

Lenswonder So almost like a Dear Deidre kind of system, where the rest of PP are then Deidre (without the anonymity of the OP)?
Please don't assume people who are asking questions don't want to understand simply because they haven't understood yet. Similarly, disagreeing with the need or the benefits of a suggestion isn't the same as not understanding it.
From what I've understood of your idea, I don't think it's a good idea. That's not to say that I don't understand the benefit or usecase you're proposing, I just don't think there's as much need for it as you may think and I don't think the idea is as robust as you believe it to be. But this isn't an attack against you or your idea, I just disagree with your conclusion of the risk vs reward analysis.

Like what? If it's really general why do you need to be anonymous, you can still raise it without naming and shaming. If it relates to a specific individual then just report it. I'm not clear what the use case is, can you give some specific examples?
