Am I buying in the wrong shops?

Looking at other models profiles I seriously wonder if I'm buying my clothes in the wrong shops. Some girls put themselves down as size 4-8 when they strike me as a size 16-22. Maybe I have reached that age now where I am in urgent need of classes or maybe there is shops that give you fluttering sizes. If that's the case does anybody know where I can find them? :-)
