Spectacular Scenery

Ireland’s West Coast. Once seen, never forgotten and just begging to be photographed. The beauty and diversity of this fabulously unspoilt part of the world make it a spectacular place to shoot Fine Art Landscape. The rugged Connemara coastline gives us white sandy beaches, rocky outcrops and windswept dunes. Nature has carved out picturesque bays strewn with the golden seaweed characteristic of this area. Some are home to working harbours and it almost seems as though the weathered fishing boats and all the paraphernalia associated with this coastal trade might have been put there just for us to photograph. What else? Lochs, mountains, abandoned buildings, an abbey and a castle or two. More than enough for a weekend of photography. That’s why we select for you a range of different scenic locations to represent the essence of The Wild Atlantic Way. But there’s much more to our Photo Weekender than breath-taking scenery. And, once you are here, we take care of it all.

Landscape: Another Dimension

We cannot improve on this landscape - but we can add to it. To give another dimension to your photography experience, on the third day of your stay we are introducing a lovely Irish model into the mix. Now you will have the opportunity to learn how to use people in a natural setting to create powerful narrative and atmosphere. Redhead Rua Rose has an engagingly Irish beauty which marries perfectly with the sweeping lines and subtle colours of the Connemara wilderness. Throughout the day, you will build on your understanding of how to harness available light and the importance of  composition. And we will style Rua Rose in ways which lend emotion and interest to your shots.

Photography Tuition

As much or as little as you want or need! If you simply want to soak up the atmosphere and the culture of this spectacular location, take some pictures, relax and socialise, you are very welcome. Most who come on our Photo Trips also feel that they want to improve their photography and Andrew delivers training and support to suit each individual. The Photo Weekender is no exception. Whatever your existing level of competence with Landscape Photography, you can be assured that you will not only take home some great shots, you will also learn new skills to improve your practice long-term.

Sunrise is 6.19am, sunset 7.13pm.

A True Irish Welcome

Making your stay in Connemara an enjoyable experience is something we know about. When you return from an exhilarating day outside in the elements, you want to relax and enjoy some real Irish hospitality. That’s exactly why we are returning to The Maol Reid Hotel in Tullycross, on the gloriously untamed Renvyle Penninsula. Proprietor Tony is the perfect host and his staff are equally warm, friendly and helpful. ‘Treat it as your own home’ says Tony and he means it. What’s more, because he’s a local man, he has a wealth of local knowledge and information to share with us. All we have to do is ask.

Your Accommodation

Rooms are single occupancy and all are spacious with en suite bathrooms; many have views across the the mountains of Connemara and Mayo. You have all the usual appliance you would expect to find in a 3-star hotel: flat screen TV, iron, hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities. Free WiFi is available in all areas, including the cosy lounge and the bar where you can enjoy a Guinness, a fine Irish Malt - or any tipple of your choice. On chilly evenings, Tony ensures there’s a good fire roaring in the hearth, to enjoy while you wait for your table in the restaurant.

Regional Fare

It’s important to us that you enjoy every aspect of the weekend and food is pretty near the top of the list! Your stay includes a fantastic choice of breakfast fare to set you up for the day’s shooting. In the evening, enjoy an inclusive 3-course meal from a menu which gives you a choice of local dishes. As well as the traditional Irish beef steak, this area is famed for its Connemara lamb and the seafood on your plate will probably have been caught that day. If you have any specific dietary requirements, just let us know in advance but please, it’s really no problem. Chef will ensure you are well catered for. Whatever you decide to eat, Tony’s wine cellar is sure to have something special to accompany your meal.

So you’ve been out with your camera all day and you’ve enjoyed a hearty meal. If you still have energy to spare, there are two pubs in the village with live entertainment - traditional Irish music, of course.
