Models - Top 5 Essential Things To Take On Photoshoots!

Have you just started off in the world of modeling? Here are some useful essentials from the PurplePort Modeling Community to make sure that you're on your top modeling form!

Turning up to a photoshoot without the bare essentials can really throw you off your game and also those that you're working with. There's only one chance to make a first impression and you want to have those boxes ticked in terms of being prepared, organized and professional to ensure that those photoshoot bookings keep rolling in!

After reading the various model responses to my question; "What are your top 5 things to take on a photoshoot?" in a General Chat discussion, I compiled a list of the 5 most essential...

#1 Mobile phone and charger/power bank

This is a No.1 without a doubt! Don't leave the house without them! Whether it's for looking at train and bus times, getting hold of your photographer or using GPS to find your photoshoot locations, having your phone to hand with plenty of charge is an absolute must. Don't forget you won't always be able to charge your phone on public transport.

#2 Makeup bag including mirror and wet wipes

You're not always going to have an MUA by your side! Plan for rain and dirt! You will be much more comfortable and able to get the most out of your shoot if you can make those little touch-ups throughout the day, makeup likes to melt off your face on a warm day and a long trek through fields or undergrowth to get to that perfect location.

#3 Hairbrush

Your photographer isn't always going to be after the tousled, windswept look - take measures to tame that mane if needed! A quick run-through with your brush can really help put the finishing touches in that headshot.

#4 Clothing, outfit changes, and warm things

Obviously bring some clothes... Whether that's the discussed outfits, some staples i.e. leather jacket, ballet shoes etc, or cozy attire in between shots. You don't want your feet to freeze off either as you pose pose pose on some chilly morning, so fluffy socks or boots would come in very handy.

#5 First aid kit

If you're shooting outdoors you will inevitably get some bumps and scrapes someday so be prepared! You won't always be in a nice clean studio, an outdoor photoshoot comes with the occasional hazards so it's always good to take safety measures so you can clean and patch yourself up in no time.

And also...

This list obviously isn't very extensive and there are many more useful things one can take on a shoot to make sure you're performing your best on the day, some noteworthy mentions were; food (being starving or even just hangry means you won't be on your A-game) and music (for getting in the zone of the theme of your shoot)!

I completely agree with everything. I would also add a mini sewing kit.

I like this list but one very important thing a model needs to bring to a shoot that was not on the list is that a model needs to bring a PROFESSIONAL attitude.

All good info, except that makeup should be done before the agreed shoot start time, i.e. in the models time, not the clients/photographers time.

Safety pins, insulating tape, housewife (needle & thread) and Avon skin-so-soft, for the midges

Safety pins, insulating tape, housewife (needle & thread)

Wet wipes, gaffa tape and tin snips for outdoor shoots. No I'm not nuts, you never know when you need to pull an annoying branch or wire away from your perfect shot or snip a plant into shape

Blue jeans, black jeans, a white t-shirt and a black t-shirt are clothing essentials as well as Photo ID.

Your top five is a pretty good checklist, when asked by a model what to bring I always say, a smile, your sense of humour, and a pair of knickers..

If you can't carry a battery pack then try a USB Data Blocker. It attaches between your USB cable and socket to physically block data transfer while charging. This allows you to plug into the photographer's laptop or untrusted charging ports on the go.

Always bring nipple tape and skin colored underwear too! I also cannot function on location without my changing tent
