Try googling doctor! or Survey :-D people believe what they see and these days people believe titles a little less anyway, Cancer rates are up , if you like statistic so much here one - Worldwide, the number of cancer cases in people under 50 years old rose by nearly 80% from 1990 to 2019, i would say that's a pretty good indication we are doing something wrong :-)

But has anyone demonstrated a causal link between mobile 'phone use and cancer?  No.

I'm not saying that the possibility should be ignored so I respect the advice of the NHS and WHO, but I'm not getting excited about the views of conspiracy theorists.

Did you listen to the news cast? he literally names studies that prove they cause cancers and cell breakdowns tested in humanized mice, and there's the ones Huw linked above also, there have been hundreds he said that, but they were hidden, suppressed, not released to public.

He can, presumably, prove that?

Well, he named the scientific studies, so I would assume they can (lol). And since you work for Apple, maybe you could ask your boss if they can prove they don’t damage people? As I said, I’m no expert; I just listen to the people who know more, and they’re saying it’s very bad. So I’m glad I did not allow my three young children to sleep with their phones under the pillow. You can do with your children how you see fit, of course, but if you convince people here that I’m wrong and I should be ‘wearing a tin foil hat,’ and 10 years down the road it turns out you’re wrong and it does cause cancer or brain damage, are you going to at least feel bad that you tried to convince people otherwise? Because if I convince people it’s bad and I’m wrong, I can say I won’t feel bad. But my way, people and children don’t get cancer or brain damage if I’m wrong.

The two NTP studies (rats and mice) probably cost at least 5 million dollars to run. Maybe more.

There won’t be many serious studies because of the cost.

Also these organisations and companies will more than likely get paid more not to research it by the very large phone industry just like tobacco and alcohol industries used to do in the past

For the avoidance of doubt, I'm not saying that there isn't a issue - the real answer is that nobody actually knows yet.  I'll exercise caution and take advice from organisations that I trust, and I'd advise everyone else to do the same.  But I won't get excited by scaremongerers.

In the meantime I'd be more worried by the mental health issues associated with mobile 'phone use.

Try Googling, doctor! 😄 People believe what they see, and these days, they believe titles a little less anyway. Cancer rates are up. I would say that’s a pretty good indication that we are doing something wrong. 😅 I’m not blaming it all on mobiles; foods play a part, as I’ve said, along with other factors. I’m just saying I’m glad I did not allow my children to keep their mobiles under their pillows.

Alternatively, it might indicate we're doing something right: we could be detecting more not because there is more, but because our detection method(s) are better. Without more evidence, I wouldn't bet on either one being the right one. (c.f. autism rate increase over the same period, and the debates surrounding that.)

It's very difficult to prove causality, unfortunately, and, as you note, there are a lot of factors that have changed over the last 30 years; radio usage, computer ubiquity, mobile phone ubiquity, pollution, changes in the food supply...

Just noticed this.

NTP = National Toxicology Program = US government.

Only about one in five hundred people in the world had mobile phones at the beginning of 1996.

That’s five whole years of the supposed 1990 to 2019 global cancer increase timeframe that really cannot be attributed to phones.

However, before about 1997 mobile phones put out a lot more in the way of RF and were largely in the hands of a comparatively smaller demographic- thirties to fifties white middle class professional men in a few cities.

So, there should be data about head and neck cancer increases in that smaller demographic from that period. AFAIK there’s really no convincing data; just hints that it might be a factor in unusual and rare cancers.

(If there was convincing evidence of a direct causal effect on the scale suggested, that highly litigious demographic would have exposed it.)

And those early phone users have now been using mobiles for thirty years, and many are well into the age group where cancer risks multiply. But there’s no runaway trend for head/neck/brain cancers.

AFAIK in populations with western diets most cancers associated with obesity and being overweight are increasing, and the majority of the others are decreasing.

Use an earpiece or speaker phone or video conference for long calls, remember the inverse square law isn’t just for studio flash, quit smoking, eat better, drink only on rare occasions and worry about something else, like the global trend towards right wing strongman authoritarian fascism and the role of shoddy news coverage, conspiracy theory thinking and science denialism in its advance.

As a few have showed on here and the expert on the video have shown it’s proven it does cause cancer and other things.

To say that if it was bad everyone would come forward and advertise it is quite frankly ludicrous , look at cigarettes, cereals, butter. Milk, sugar, lithium, alcohol, the list is literally endless, if there’s big money behind it , it almost always gets hushed up to keep the money flowing.

I'll probably get in trouble for this but the biggest problem that faces life on Earth is the sheer excessive number of humans.  Humanity is the 'cancer' of the planet.  Anything that can reduce the number of breeding humans will benefit life on Earth but, alas, not the individuals.  I'll say no more.

Terry V while I agree the planet is overcrowded if you look into the figures birthrates have been in serious decline for a decade 🙂 fact is we’re not breeding enough to sustain our way of life

Birth rates might be declining, but that just means the population is growing less quickly.

It's like inflation: low inflation doesn't mean prices are dropping, just that they're rising more slowly.

The UN has some "best guess" predictions for how the world's population will continue to grow for many years yet. https://www.un.org/en/global-issues/population
