So Im branching out into remote shooting as I do think it will remain popular for some time.
I've just discovered the shutter app on my phone. Has anybody used this? Is there a better app that can be used.
I don't have any professional equipment (yet) so just using my phone and tripod for the time being so it's more for fun and test shoots perhaps
It works OK....there's also the clos app if you use an apple device.

I think it’s in the Photographer’s group. I was hoping that tagging them would alert them to provide a copy of the info here.
I’ve used it a couple of times,works fine if a little limited positioning of mobile important try if possible to site at a reasonable height not too high or low.Hope this helps.

whatmonloves on instagram has been using the shutter app to do remote shoots (as a photographer) so you can have a look at the range of stuff she manages to get - its surprisingly good quality
Feel free to message and I’ll be happy to share my experience. I’ve used both Shutter and CLOS. As it stands I’d not bother with CLOS any more.

I have used ShutterApp several times and I can summarize as follows:
- Image quality depends on the camera quality of your smartphone and on adequate lighting.
- A tripod is mandatory if you want to obtain decent quality images
- Image quality is fair and good for social media, smartphone screens
- You need a lot of patience as you will rely on the communication between you and the photographer to achieve the desired results.
- I recommend having a second communication path (Zoom, Whatsapp video, Facetime, etc) so you can see the photographer as the app only allows voice communication with the photographer.
To me is a good solution for remote shooting when the emphasis is made on composition, lighting and posing rather than image quality (i.e. prints)
I'm a lifelong photographer, and I had to close my professional studio after 15 years due to a sudden, total, and irretrievable hearing loss in my right ear. This loss also affected my sense of balance to a minor degree, so hands-on studio operation or running an in-person photoshoot became out of the question. I had used tethering-set-ups in my volume headshot photography work, so I was used to operating a camera through my laptop/desktop. I have done remote sessions with talented, experienced, and tech-savvy models. Still, the expense of their professional-level camera and lighting equipment puts remote modeling out of the range of most non-professional models. So, I was intrigued when I heard about Shutter App™ and the use of popular, omnipresent mobile phone cameras anywhere in the world to capture images. Of course, there is a learning curve, steeper for some than others, but I'm satisfied with the results I'm getting. The images from my iPhone 15 Pro Max are 48mpx each and in a one-hour session, I'm able to capture 400+ images. I'll stop now, but I'm willing to offer any advice about using Shutter App™ in your remote photography projects.
I had a quick look at the images on your profile and they are all first class. Are you shooting in RAWS using the app's pro plan or high res JPEGS on the standard plan?
Great that the app has allowed you to continue your good work despite circumstances.

Thanks, Wally! I'm glad to meet a kindred spirit here! The photos are a mix: some taken with a Nikon D3s at my studio and others with whatever the model had. I can't tell the difference. I'm on the Pro plan, with RAW enabled and 20 GB of storage, since I take many photos per session. I only use the main camera with no aftermarket lenses. I upload immediately just for safety's sake. For the phone shots; I routinely use HitPaw in post for noise reduction and facial skin smoothing, if necessary. I usually post the EXIF data of the phone sessions, though.
