triggering elinchrom strobes...

dear all,

i use a sony camera system and use a sony compatible trigger (with all the tiny gold connectors at the front of the flash's foot) to
fire off the godox lights that i use.  i have two triggers.  1. an godox expro (sony) and an earlier cheaper trigger by godox.

i now want to go an elinchrom equipped studio.     will my current trigger(s) operate (as in trigger)  the elinchrom lights ???
i dont mind not having ttl or remote control of lights as its a relatively small studio and i am a very ploddy-slow photographer
as i like to think talk  (drink tea)  (dunk biscuits)  .....you know the s.p. i'm sure LoL

question is:   will my godox trigger be able to trigger the elinchroms in basic manual mode ?

if not, are elinchrom studio strobes be equipped with the slave  S2  setting so i can trigger them with
a small trigger flash on top of my camera, again being ok with manual mode and loss of remote setting facilities.

i'm very used to my own setup, have settled into godox as a system and not educated myself
as to compatabilities between systems.

any constructive advice gladly received - thanks

The studio will provide the necessary triggers

What Tabitha said - don't worry about providing your own triggers, that's what studios are for!

No, each manufacturer only works with their own trigger. And each manufacturer will have a trigger per camera brand.  The only exception is if you can trigger your strobes optically (i.e they see A flash and then flash as well

As Tabitha mentioned; if you're going to a studio that provides the use of their strobes in your rental, they should provide you the required trigger. You can ask the studio owner in advance in your precomms if you're in doubt.

Hot shoe flash very low power will get it done

I'd ask the studio if they have a Sony compatible Elinchrom trigger. Does your camera have sync cable socket, that can be used as last resort if Elinchroms are fairly modern low voltage sync.

Or just take one of your godox lights and again use it on very low power as an optical trigger, all elinchrom will have a slave setting. Some triggers Elinchrom have just central contact generally work on all cameras. I use a mix of Bowens and Elinchrom often together no problem, maybe bowens on background ...

The 'simple'  Elinchrom Skyport trigger is a centre pin only trigger and will work with any camera with one, sometimes Sony's need an adapter to 'get' a centre connector on the hotshoe. but that's all.

The more complex Skyport Pro trigger IS. camera dedicated as it allows more facilities including HSS.

Your basic Godox trigger MIGHT trigger the Elinchrom depending on the transmission (trigger) and head (receiver) frequency.

ALL Elinchrom  heads I've used have a (switchable) optical slave receiver so will trigger with your on camera flash.

To add to the well-made points above, my location kit is Elinchrom and I trigger it with an old Yongnuo radio trigger with no problems using the 3.5mm jack socket.

So, I suspect your Godox will work fine. As you say, this will do no more than trigger the flash but that's fine.

Working this way allows me to leave the fancy, expensive Elinchrom triggers in the studio and the Yongnuo trigger gives me everything I need for location work.

I've got Elinchrom BX250RI strobes with a Skyport trigger and Godox AD200s with a XPro trigger. The Elinchroms don't fire with the Xpro, nor do the AD200s with the Skyport.

Both can be optically triggered S2 by each other or an on camera flash, just to add to the mix mine's a Metz by any will do.

I've got a couple of these which only have the simple centre contact for triggering. Despite that they allow you to control the power for different groups and trigger them separately or all together. The prices on eBay vary quite widely. I snagged one for £35, was delighted with it, and then grabbed second one for £40 when I saw it. You do get people asking £100 for them. They worked just fine when we tested them on Richard's (Camertrav's) Sony A7-3 when he was visiting.

I have also triggered with a Godox X1-T (using a matching X1-R receiver connect to the Elinchrom strobe with a little sync cord.) If you want to go super cheap you can use those little Yongnuo triggers (which I was using before I got the Skyport Plus.)

Apologies Ignore the above: I misread your O.P. & thought you were changing your own flashes to Elinchrom. I should have known: nobody does that these days – except me. 🤣

chelmerphoto as said before the studio should have the triggers/receivers

If they don't any Godox receiver will work with your trigger, all you have to do is to connect the trigger via a lead to the strobe, generally all triggers are sold with a variety of different leads, Triggers like X1R, X2R etc. if you have speedlights it might be worth getting a receiver that is dedicated to Sony like this https://www.amazon.co.uk/Godox-X1R-S-Channels-Wireless-Receiver/dp/B0755DZG5M/ref=sr_1_5?crid=2HF0M48UPJWEU&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.O4pVkxyR5RwYGft0kidnpD-oBhGczjHalR9gy96_L4EpQKkO9NeF3kD2OdLlMmPFs5xsmsBMAISJclAD9BbdGUWQz3KGZLRd4rxDyoVFb5xPi7RXZi5jHwTNOiAgL6k4EcgU-pGRjqJOUfOlG4X18jPOGPCq5E3CgkVd1F0f4i94blZFUcYAuBc5Fn2zGLF6TPjQu6_S5DwlKfs1gtHM1jUrhcthgnV22hVj2sqFBfg.aUJLrRU0MJpIqLp-Tb47e4s99XfSu2xxrmsZZBaYuj4&dib_tag=se&keywords=godox+receiver&qid=1715853946&sprefix=godox+receiver%2Caps%2C107&sr=8-5

It's £35 on amazon, might find it cheaper by shopping around

I'm pretty sure that most studios will supply the necessary triggers for their brand of lights, but always good to check that your camera is compatible with their system - there are a couple of hotshoe mounts out there that will throw a curveball to the studio - but I think that's unlikely with the system you've described.

In the event you do need to provide your own triggering, then a simple Godox X1R receiver will pick up the signal from your ExPro trigger.  Then you'd either use the cable to hook up the receiver to the flash head using the PC sync socket or just pop their trigger on to the Godox receiver and it will then trigger all their lamps for you.

https://www.lencarta.com/godox-x1r-wireless-flash-receiver

But I'd be 95% certain their triggers will work on your camera and you won't need to buy your own receiver (although it's always useful to have one in the kit bag, even for just using speedlights off-camera)

To answer your other question about slave triggering using the flash head's cell from your own onboard flash- it's more than likely they can do this, yes. There's a couple of potential issues you may encounter, including the flash head picking up the camera's pre-flash and firing too early, but on many lights you can override this.

But I really don't think you'd need to use your on-board flash to fire these.
